The Oedipus Cycle
A trilogy of Greek tragedy: Oedipus Tyrannus, Oedipus at Colonus, Antigone.
The Oedipus Cycle tells the tragedies of the house of Labdacus, beginning with Oedipus' futile attempts to avoid the fate of killing his father and marrying his mother. A tragedy like no other, Oedipus serves as the paradigm of human suffering and helplessness.
From Oedipus' fate to that of his daughter, Antigone's outspoken defiance of human law in favour of the laws of the gods leaves her at the mercy of a tyrannical king. Reaction to her death sentence leads to suffering, injustice, and a harrowing realisation for her prosecutor.
